The principle of operation of Trimeter®-Optic optical flowmeters is based on the use of the scintillation effect, which creates a moving set of shadow "marks" in the photodetector, which are formed in the light stream due to the different density of the expiring gas. The time of moving a set of labels to a known fixed distance in the photodetector is used to calculate the average flow velocity in the cross section of the flue, regardless of the type of velocity plot. The algorithm for identifying and recognizing shadow marks is implemented in a multiprocessor average flow rate calculator and is a key element of an optical flow measurement system.
